Blockchain Courses

In the last few posts, I have explained the basics about blockchain, but that information, will probably be insufficient if you want build your own blockchain based technology, say your own cryptocurrency.

Most of these courses will be conducted online, and not all of them cost money. Here are a few courses which may help you gain a deeper understanding of the blockchain.

Free

A lot of times, before I invest my time in learning something, I often try to learn a tiny part about it, and see if it interests me. If you are like me, you will definitely want to take free courses. These are some of the popular ones. Note that while the course content is free in most of the following courses, very few actually provide a certificate before purchasing the course.

Bitcoin: What is It?

This is an introductory course to blockchain technology by Khan Academy. The course consists of a series of nine video lectures covering everything from cryptographic hash functions to the security of transactions in the blockchain. Moreover, this course is linked by bitcoin.org as a learning resource.

Blockchain Specialization

This is a specialization consisting of a series of four courses on Coursera conducted by instructors from the University of Buffalo. All four courses can be taken separately, and are free to enroll, but each requires payment for certification.

Blockchain Theory 101

This course is available on Udemy and as is the case with the platform, most courses are not conducted by institutions, but by individuals. The course provides an overview of the technology, and is suitable for people who are totally new to the concept.

IBM Developer Course

If you want to learn about blockchain through a hands-on experience, this may be the best for you. This is not technically a course, but a series of tutorials and code examples to help you build your first blockchain based application.

Paid

BerkeleyX’s Blockchain Fundamentals

This is a professional certificate course on edX where you will learn about synthesising your own blockchains, understanding the mechanics of Bitcoin and more. However, this course may help you slightly more than the free ones since it also teaches about blockchains from an enterprise and regulatory perspective, while still teaching the basics of blockchain.

Introduction to Hyperledger Technologies

Recommended for beginners, this course is a detailed primer to blockchain and its use in the interprise by the Linux Foundation. This course is free, but you won’t get a certificate without paying.

Other Courses

The internet is full of wonderful ways to learn. The above list is not exhaustive, so you there is a chance that may find better courses online. Also, feel free to check out my previous posts on blockchain, in case you want to here.
