We dived into May with hopes and prayers but the month gave us a devastating prison riot on the first day itself. On 1st May, a prison riot broke out in Venezuela which left more than 40 dead and many injured at Los Llanos jail.
After the end of 2nd Lockdown or Lockdown 2.0 in India, restrictions were slowly lifted in the states with fewer cases and given that world’s some of the biggest economies such s Germany and United States were going through a recession, PM Modi announced an economic rescue package worth 10 % of the GDP. On 7th May, in Vishakhapatnam, a toxic gas leak took place from a Factory which left more than 13 dead. A cyclone named Amphan also made its presence known, arriving on 20th May in West Bengal, East India and Bangladesh leaving hundreds of people distressed, killing more than 84 people and bringing huge amount of destruction. On 27th May, the locusts took another step further as they invaded India after invading Pakistan and Iran bringing a great deal of dread for the already upset farmers.

May 25th 2020 marked the beginning of a saga, The George Floyd Saga. A video of African-American George Floyd’s arrest and murder while restrained in Minneapolis police custody showing that he was pinned to the ground by police officer Derek Chauvin’s knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds was released which ignited widespread condemnation and nationwide protests. In the next couple of days, protests increased significantly as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz declared State of Emergency in Minneapolis and activated the Minnesota National Guard.
